Fostering a safer campus community

"Our View" is prepared by the Editorial Board and should be considered the institutional voice of The Record

By Kayla Anderson, Kate Stearns, Marissa Watt, Jayden Forniel, Elise Rippentrop · February 6, 2026

The recent incident that has occurred on campus, detailed in a news article in this week’s edition of The Record, is one that is immensely distressing and disturbing to CSB+SJU students and our Editorial Board. As newspaper editors, our priorities revolve around transparency and accountability, which includes making survivors’ voices heard and supported. It is devastating knowing this is a terrifying reality for many.

We want to acknowledge the survivors of sexual assault and support their voices and stories. You are never alone, and your experience matters. Treating sexual assault with depth, sensitivity and importance is something that we need to work on as a campus, but also in society as a whole. Collective action is necessary and vital to creating a campus culture that will not tolerate violence of any kind. This work starts with you — the way we conduct ourselves in our personal relationships and our everyday interactions matter more than you think. Our communities must take care of and respect each other, now more than ever.

Below are just a few resources compiled for those who need additional support, or those who find themselves looking for action items during this time.
