Fall fashion trends that are making headway at CSB/SJU

As the leaves start to change, so does the fashion. Our social media is filled with pumpkin patches and hot apple cider matched with sweaters for the season.
Each of the four seasons has different trends that fit its respective weather, and fall 2021 is no different.
Sweaters, knitted clothing, baggy jeans, stomping boots, turtlenecks and fall miniskirts made the new trends.
To combat the fall weather, knitted sweaters and hoodies work well. On the warmer days, skirts are a common sight around campus.
Students on campus elaborated on their fall fashion choices.
“I have this green corduroy button-down… it’s oversized, so I can wear a sweatshirt underneath it when it gets cold outside,” said Martha Dougherty, a CSB first year.
She adds the layered look to combat the cold while maintaining the fall aesthetic.
Layers are more popular on social media than the runways, a fact that becomes apparent when scrolling through TikTok and Instagram.
Regardless of the year, layers are always a timeless style during the colder seasons.
Climate differences play a massive role for what is in season.
While a vest with no undershirt might be popular in a warmer climate, that wouldn’t be ideal here, where people are bundled up in their plaid shirts to stay warm.
On both campuses, plaid seems to be the new black.
Black North Face jackets, which perfectly align with a huggable jacket, also seem to fit the seasonal trends.
Every season brings a new color palette, and the palette for this fall season was rather shocking.
A burnt orange, bright red, navy blue, a restful mid-tone blue and root beer brown cover the racks of fashion magazines.
Social media, on the other hand, promotes forest green, warm brown hues and cream-based colors.
As for Dougherty, other than sage green, she spoke about a sweater that works with all the season colors,
“It’s [a sweater] that is navy blue with little white dots.” Even though many do not think navy is a fall color, it turns out this shade of blue is filling closets.
Regardless of the changing season, remember to stay warm and fully embrace however you want to dress.
Fashion is there to fully embrace the season. Wear what you love during the fall, or wear what you want to stay warm.
